Honk Oz 2017

Colourful, Acoustic and Mobile! Spontaneous and liberating! The HONK! Oz Festival of street music is a raucous three-day spectacle featuring alternative community bands and related arts.

HONK bands borrow a fusion of street grooves from New Orleans Second Line, Jazz, Funk, Pop, Klezmer, Balkan Brass, Romani Music and elsewhere.

HONK Oz is a collision of musicians, friends, families, outrageous costumes and irresistible music. A fringe event of The Illawarra Folk Festival, it all happens in and around the Wollongong Arts Precinct January 19th, 20th, 21st

Thursday January 19th
• Pre-HONK! Street Band Workshops with Ken Field, Linsey Pollak, Tunji Beier and Wollongong Conservatorium of Music
• 5pm Official Festival Opening Wollongong City Mall • HONK! at The Eat Street Markets. Twenty visiting and local bands perform in and around Wollongong City Mall & Globe Lane from 5 until 9pm
• Lantern Parade

Friday January 20th
• 11.00am Grand Street Parade through the City, followed by performances and workshops throughout the day in and around the Wollongong City Mall, Arts Precinct and Harbour
• Street Band Workshops with Ken Field, Linsey Pollak, Tunji Beier and Wollongong Conservatorium of Music
• HONK! After Dark with DVA and London Klezmer Quartet at ‘The Music Lounge’ • HONK! After Dark party at Centro CBD

Saturday January 21st
• 11.30am Arts Precint: MAKE MUSIC Wollongong – The culmination of the HONK! Oz Street Music Festival will be a world premiere performance of HONKSKI ORO – a large scale street music composition, funded by Wollongong City Council large Cultural Grant
• Saturday afternoon recovery at The Illawarra Jazz Club Corrimal Hotel
