Local Home Doctor Service Available This Long Weekend

Wollongong based, not-for-profit home doctor service Radio Doctor Illawarra will be available for anyone feeling unwell across the Anzac weekend, from 7pm on Friday 22nd through to 6am on Tuesday, 26th April including 24 hours on Anzac Day, Monday 25th.

Long weekends that include a public holiday such as Anzac Day are particularly busy for the not-for- profit bulk-billing medical service, who see locals and holidaymakers in private and rented accommodation that are feeling unwell and cannot access a GP.

“With general medical practices shut and hospital emergency services often stretched over holiday periods such as the Anzac Long Weekend, we play a crucial role for residents of the Illawarra or visitors to the area who need to see a Doctor in a non-emergency situation,” Frank Wallner, Radio Doctor Illawarra General Manager said.

The popular Radio Doctor service was set up as a not-for-profit cooperative over 40 years ago by a group of local doctors to assist patients with home-based medical care at nights, on weekends and public holidays all year round.

It has since helped tens of thousands of families across the Illawarra and is an extremely popular service with the elderly and parents of young children in particular.

Radio Doctor Illawarra, previously known as Wollongong Radio Doctor, recently received a renewal of the respected industry AGPAL (Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited) accreditation, demonstrating the quality and safety of this unique, localised, GP member-based service.

People needing to see a doctor this Anzac long weekend across suburbs from Scarborough in northern Illawarra to Gerroa in the south can access the service by contacting the Radio Doctor Illawarra call centre on 02 4228 5522.

Normal operating hours resume on Tuesday 26th – see radiodoctor.com.au or facebook.com/radiodoctorillawarra for details.
