The Discovery Space is the ultimate learn-through-play experience, located on the University of Wollongong's main campus! As the world’s first dedicated children’s museum based on a university campus, it provides interactive experiences, stimulating educational programs and learn-through-play activities for children aged birth to 10 years and their adults.
In collaboration with Aspect (Autism Spectrum Australia), Early Start Discovery Space has created two resources valuable for all children and their adults (including teachers) visiting with an autistic person, and those with sensory sensitivities. You can read their Social Story on this webpage, or you can click download, print and review in preparation for your visit. This Social Story will illustrate what to expect upon arrival and what you might see and experience throughout the different spaces.
Early Start Discovery Space is open (nearly!) everyday of the School Holidays from 9am to 3:30pm. See our events page here for more details.
Early Start Discovery Space runs a weekly program during the NSW School term for ages 0 - 10 years, focusing on creativity, movement and sensory play activities. Activities are free (after paid entry to the Space) and bookings for activities are not required. Learn more here.
Early Start Discovery Space experiences have been designed by University of Wollongong educators and researchers to inspire meaningful play and enhance the value that children gain through play-based experiences.
We are open seven days a week (closed some Public Holidays). See our opening hours webpage to see any planned closures!
