    This September, Wollongong City Libraries is buzzing with book clubs, author talks, creative workshops, storytimes, and special events for all ages. Whether you want to discover your next great read, learn a new skill, or enjoy quality time with family, you’ll find something to inspire.

    How to book

    Events are marked as either bookings required or no bookings required. For those requiring bookings, visit the Wollongong City Libraries website and follow the links on the events page, or call your local library to reserve your place.

    All events are free unless ticket prices are listed.

    Monday 1 September

    The Open Book Club at Warrawong Library, 2-3pm

    Share your thoughts on this month’s book in a friendly, informal discussion. Perfect for avid reads and anyone looking to discover new authors. Currently accepting new members. Free, no bookings required - just drop in.

    One More Chapter Book Club at Dapto Library, 5.30-6.30pm

    Meet fellow book lovers, swap recommendations, and enjoy lively conversation over this month’s chosen title. Currently accepting new members. Free, no bookings required - just drop in

    Get Ready! A school transition program for children and parents at Thirroul Library, 10-11am

    A four-week program designed to help children and their parents/carers feel more confident about beginning kindergarten. Free, bookings required.

    Get Skilled: Library Apps at Wollongong Library (ages 18+), 12-3pm

    Celebrate Adult Learners Week by exploring the free digital tools your library offers. From eBooks to learning platforms, you'll learn all through group and one-on-one help. Free, no bookings required - just drop in

    Designed for seniors to build knowledge, strength and confidence to prevent falls, stay active and retain independence. Free, bookings required.

    Seed and Sapling Swap at Corrimal Library, 10-11am

    Visit the library with some of your seeds or saplings and swap with other members of the community to propagate your gardens. Free, no bookings required - just drop in

    Get Creative: Sustainable Scrap Sewing at Wollongong Library, 6-8pm

    In this creative (and social!) workshop, you will learn how to turn fabric scraps into functional and attractive items such as placemats or coasters. Free, bookings required.

    Enjoy some stories, rhymes and songs outdoors with your friendly local library staff. Free, no bookings required - just drop in

    Hands on history storytime at Helensburgh Library, 10.30-11.15am

    A playful and educational morning that brings history to life for preschool children aged 3 to 5. Free, no bookings required - just drop in

    Thursday 18 September

    A Literary Lunch with Hayley Scrivenor at the Wollongong City Council Administration Building, 12-2pm

    The author of Dirt Town and Girl Falling will discuss works and writing career, and answer questions from the audience. Tickets cost $35 for Friends of the Library members, or $40 for non-members.

    Third Thursday Book Club at Warrawong Library, 1-2pm

    Connect with fellow readers and discuss this month’s literary pick. A relaxed space to share thoughts, discover new stories, and enjoy good company. Currently accepting new members. Free, no bookings required - just drop in.

    Author Talk with Alejandra Martinez in conversation with Hayley Scrivenor at Wollongong Library. 6-7pm

    Alejandra will discuss her moving debut, which follows Juan, a widower in his seventies, as he navigates grief, family, and an unexpected connection that challenges his sense of identity and belonging. Free, bookings required.

    Friday 19 September

    HSC Library Lock-In with Ollie the therapy dog at Wollongong Library, 6-8pm

    Year 11 and 12 students are invited to an after-hours study session, with snacks and cuddles with Ollie the therapy labrador. Free, bookings required.

    Author Talk with Graham 'Buzz' Bidstrup in conversation with Mawunyo Gbogbo at Thirroul Library (Ages 18+)

    An original member of The Angels, GANGgajang and The Party Boys, Graham 'Buzz' Bidstrup, recounts his journey from his first drum kit to becoming a powerhouse drummer, session musician, songwriter, producer and manager. Free, bookings required.

    Talk with Real Made Up Stories Podcast at Warrawong Library, 6-7pm

    Listen to host Phillip Crawford talk about The Mystery of Mission Lagoon, the first episode of his new local podcast Real Made Up Stories. Free, bookings required.

    Family bingo night at Thirroul Library, 5-6.30pm

    Spend an evening together enjoying classic bingo and friendly competition. A chance for the whole family to connect, unwind and maybe take home a prize. Free, bookings required.
