Welcome to the Wollongong Science Centre and Planetarium. The Science Centre and Planetarium is located on the Innovation Campus University of Wollongong.
The Science Centre’s opening hours are 10 AM to 4 PM every day including most public holidays. Anyone is most welcome to visit the Science Centre during this time. We also accept group bookings and we have a function room available for hire.
There is on-site parking which is free for Science Centre visitors.
Do you like to get “hands on” Our two-storeyExhibit Hall has over 100 interactive exhibits relating to various themes like “The Machine ” or “Dinosaurs, Fossils and Coal”.
Do you have an interest in astronomy? Visit the BlueScope Steel Planetarium – our Planetarium- for stunning recreations of the night sky – from around the world, from different eras – even from a different planet! The Planetarium also offers exciting laser shows.
If you want to see the real sky up close & personal our Observatory has a powerful telescope and plenty of amazing images from distant galaxies far, far away…
Entertaining Science Shows in the Illawarra Coal Science Theatre explore the more interactive fields of science, whether it be blowing gigantic bubbles, freezing objects or just blowing things up :-).
Our school outreach program is called Star Trails. Star Trails brings science shows to your school. A high quality portable planetarium is also available which uses the latest full dome projection equipment to create visually spectacular and highly informative presentations.
BlueScope Steel Planetarium
The Planetarium shows can be attended any day*.
On the weekend there is a planetarium show particularly suitable for young people and families at 12 noon. A show suitable for older audiences screens at 3 PM. A family laser concert is held in the theatre at 1 PM .
On weekdays shows are scheduled to suit group bookings. Please call to check availability.
School holiday programs follow weekend patterns but extra shows may be programmed.
Special group bookings are available in the evenings. Minimum group sizes apply.
Illawarra Coal Science Theatre
Science Shows are held on weekends and school holidays at 11am and 2pm. Generally the morning show is particular suited for the youngest children.
Recently we have been showing
- Sound and Music – 11 AM
- The Liquid Nitrogen Show – 2 PM.
On weekdays show topics and times are scheduled to suit group bookings.
A Laser Concert ( is held at 1 PM on weekends and school holidays.
These prices are for public visits, group booking pricing vary depending on group size and services provided.
