Parenting teenagers can be one of the most rewarding — and confronting — seasons of family life. Even the most thoughtful, loving parents can find themselves locked in conflict, walking on eggshells, or feeling completely unsure how to help their teen thrive.
That’s where I come in.
I’m Chris Hudson, founder of Understanding Teenagers, and I help parents find practical, compassionate ways to navigate the teenage years with more clarity, confidence, and connection.
Through personalised coaching sessions, I support parents to:
Stay calm and grounded during conflict
Communicate in ways that strengthen trust
Set boundaries that are clear, respectful, and realistic
Understand what’s really going on beneath a teen’s behaviour
Support motivation, responsibility, and emotional wellbeing
I bring over 25 years’ experience working with young people and their families, along with a Master’s Degree in Education. Over the past two decades, I’ve worked with parents, schools, and communities across Australia and internationally — helping them better understand adolescents and build stronger, healthier family relationships.
My approach is non-judgmental, research-informed, and grounded in real-world experience. It’s about helping parents make sense of what’s happening, respond more effectively, and feel good about how they’re showing up — even when things are messy or uncertain.
Whether things feel like they’re falling apart, or you just want to feel more intentional and steady in your parenting, coaching is a practical and supportive next step.

Helping Parents See Beyond The Labels - Teenagers and Neurodiversity
Many parents raising neurodivergent teens—those diagnosed with ADHD, Autism, or similar—find themselves overwhelmed, unsure what actually helps when standard parenting methods fall short. I work with families to move beyond the diagnosis, helping them understand their teen’s behaviors, respond effectively, and build on strengths without lowering expectations. The goal is to create a balance of support and accountability, so parents can feel confident, connected, and equipped with practical strategies to reduce conflict, set realistic boundaries, and nurture their teen’s growth with compassion and clarity.
