The name Wild Moose Cafe comes from Wild being the South African side and Moose a traditional animal symbol of Sweden. The South African cuisine is heavily influenced by spices including garlic, cumin, cloves, nutmeg and coriander with a large focus on the meat which is an important part of their diet. Try the Karoo all day breakfast for a taste of the traditional Boerewores sausage with eggs, mushrooms, tomato and baked beans. The Swedish food is contrasting with simple flavours and a focus on fish and potatoes, some of the dishes on the menu include a Swedish tasting platter and of course you can’t go past a warm Swedish meatball roll. They also have recently opened a sandwich bar where you can have your lunch customised to your requirements.
One of the best things about Wild Moose is their coffee!! Freshly ground to order, fair trade organic Botanic Coffee, they really focus on quality and consistency and it shows. They also use Riverina milk which is fresh and local and make the coffee so much better. In house they also have an interesting dry goods store with foods imported from Sweden and South African. You can take home and experiment with some new flavours and bring some creative influences into your home cooking.
You can find Wild Moose Cafe on Facebook and keep your eyes open for their special Swedish and South African evenings which are a lot of fun.
