The IWD Illawarra committee will celebrate International Women’s Day again in 2022 with several community events including the annual luncheon on Friday, 20th May at WIN Entertainment Centre.
Our keynote speaker for 2022 is the greatest cyclist of all time and Olympic, World and Commonwealth Games champion Anna Meares OAM. Joining Anna is singing sensation Mahalia Barnes.
Despite a terrible cycling accident in 2008 which left her with a hairline fracture in her C2 vertebrae, Anna has collected 18 gold, 16 silver and 10 bronze medals at Olympic, World and Commonwealth Games level. In February 2015 Anna won the women’s keirin for her 11th world track cycling title making her the most decorated and successful female track cyclist in history. She was Australia’s flag bearer at the 2016 Rio Olympics as well as being the Team Captain. She truly is a gracious athlete and an inspirational winner.
Her story of determination and courage has inspired a generation. We’re excited to welcome Anna Meares to this year’s luncheon.
Joining Anna is singing sensation Mahalia Barnes. The talented performer has released three albums with her band The Soul Mates and will perform on the day.
