Bach’s Motets return in 2026, opening a powerful new chapter for Bach Akademie Australia — and they’re coming to the Wollongong stage.
On Friday 6 February, Bach Akademie Australia collaborates with The Song Company, Australia’s premier vocal ensemble, to perform all seven surviving motets by Johann Sebastian Bach — works that have never left the repertoire and remain among the most profound achievements in vocal music.
Written for moments of both mourning and celebration, Bach’s motets explore themes of comfort, resurrection and joy, showcasing ensemble singing at its most transcendent. Their impact has echoed across centuries — after hearing Singet dem Herrn in Leipzig in 1789, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart famously declared: “Now there is something from which one can learn!”
The program also features contemporary masterpieces that sit in luminous dialogue with Bach:

- O Radiant Dawn by James MacMillan
