Black Wallaby Indigenous Writers’ Night 2016
On May 19 at the Wollongong Art Gallery, the South Coast Writers Centre (SCWC) will be hosting the Black Wallaby Writers Night. This event will launch Volume IV of Dreaming Inside: Voices from Junee Correctional Centre, and an auction of Aboriginal art to raise money for the Indigenous Literary program.
The SCWC Indigenous Writer In Residence program is now in its third year, and will run from May 16 to 28. This year, the writer is Dr Tony Birch, a well-known Aboriginal author and academic. Over the program, Dr Tony Birch will be presenting numerous lectures and writing workshops in Wollongong and at the Sydney Writers Festival. The full program will be announced soon at southcoastwriters.org.au.
At the Black Wallaby Writers Night, Dr Tony Birch will be one of the special guests, joined by keynote speaker Colin Markham. This will also be the sixteenth annual Indigenous writers’ night hosted by the SCWC, the last four years of which has focused on the Black Wallaby Dreaming Inside Project, an Anthology that captures the voices of Aboriginal inmates at Junee Correctional Centre.
