Merrigong Creativity Camp – April School Holidays

Merrigong’s April 2017 School Holiday Creativity Camp – SUPER STORYTIME

How many ways can you tell a story?

Merrigong Theatre Companies April Creativity Camp Super Storytime will explore the ways in which we tell stories in the theatre.

Created by the same team who in 2016 brought you The Wild Ones, Mates and What if I could be a… this jam packed four-day camp will explore how we take beloved children’s books and adapt them for the stage, using spoken word, music, movement, stage design, lighting, imagery and costume. Using our campers’ limitless imagination, we will transform simple everyday objects into things magical and full of adventure to find unique ways to tell some of their most treasured tales. Super Storytime will give our campers a chance to see the world of their most beloved stories through different eyes – their favourite fables will be told with words, or just music or movement.

For campers with an interest in things technical Super Storytime will give them a chance to experience some of the technical aspects of theatre making with practical demonstrations of lighting and sound. All of this culminates as usual with a  performance for family and friends on the final day of Camp in The Music Lounge, at Wollongong Town Hall.

To get us inspired for our story telling, the creativity campers will see Monkey Baa’s production of The Dairy of a Wombat, based on the book by Jackie French and Bruce Whately. The camp will equip the children with theatre making tools to transform books into staged performances under the guidance and supervision as usual of professional performing artists and qualified educators.

A wonderful school holiday opportunity to make friends, build confidence and get creative!

Age: Children 5 – 13 years are placed into groups based on age and confidence.
