The Rotary Clubs of the Illawarra are organising a walk to raise awareness of the impact of Domestic and Family Violence on our community. This is part of a Rotary Multi National Campaign.
This is a free, family/pram-friendly community event and everyone is welcome. Starting 10am on Saturday 30 November 2024, the walk will start from Kiama Lighthouse and return to Kiama Lighthouse around 10.45am. The walk is approximately 2.1 kilometres.
Each walk registration entitles you to optionally purchase "Say No To Domestic Violence" T- Shirts for $8.00 each.
Purchase your purple T-Shirt to wear on the walk planned for 30 November and to wear every Friday to raise awareness of the impact of domestic violence in our community.
A map of the of the walk is below. There is an incline down for the start of the walk and uphill to the finish. A water station will be available halfway and toilets.
On completion of the walk, there will be presentations on the impact of domestic violence by leaders in domestic violence and by local police. Seating will be available and resources on domestic violence by local agencies.
In Australia, Domestic and Family Violence is disturbingly common. It is one of the drivers of homelessness among women, children, and men. Domestic and Family Violence crosses all boundaries, race, age, financial status, education, gender, and the suburb you may live in. 1 in 6 women and 1 in 16 men have experienced physical or sexual violence by a current or former partner. Alarmingly, on average 1 woman a week and 1 man a month is killed by a current or former partner (AIHW, Family Domestic and Sexual Violence Australia 2018).
