Steel City Strings’ CELEBRATION OF YOUTH – Kiama
Steel City Strings is joined by the BlueScope Youth Orchestra from the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music to form a 40-piece ensemble for a lively program celebrating young classical musicians.
Experience the energy and excitement of these exceptionally talented young, award-winning, local musicians:
- Peter Lavilles (15), the winner of the 2018 Wollongong Conservatorium Concerto Competition, performing Weber’s virtuosic ‘Bassoon Concerto’.
- Cedar-Rose Newman (15), the winner of numerous Eisteddfods, returns from her violin studies in New York to present Saint-Saëns’ brilliant ‘Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso’.
- Singer/songwriters Emma Snellgrove (16) and Caitlin Schlenker (17) will get feet tapping with their original song ‘Capsized’, which wowed audiences in the Cantabile Music Festival at Sydney Opera House in 2018.
- Adrian Whitehall (21), composer of ‘Absence of Light’. This piece has been composed specially for this event. Adrian has also had work commissioned and performed by the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
Plus…the combined orchestras will play suites and dances for chamber orchestra by Purcell, Boyce, Grieg and Piazzolla.
