Steel City Strings meets South Coast Big Band
In this spectacular show, Steel City Strings joins forces with South Coast Big Band, filling the hall with classical, blues, jazz and film music. This is a rare experience that should not be missed, as more than thirty Australian musicians perform great works specially arranged for this unique combination.
Steel City Strings is a chamber orchestra of professional string players from the Illawarra, South Coast and Southern Highlands. It has been delighting South Coast audiences for five years showcasing the great classical works for string orchestra and featuring local soloists, choirs and composers.
South Coast Big Band is the premier jazz orchestra in the region, with woodwinds, brass, keyboard, rhythm and Gillian Meers’ soaring voice. They are celebrating their 10th anniversary this year, releasing a debut album with original compositions by band members.
This not-to-be-missed event will feature pianist Paddy Kelly playing Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with full orchestral backing, Bob Brookmeyer’s Fanfare and Folksongs for String Quartet and Orchestra, music by Judy Bailey, songs by Joni Mitchell and Ella Fitzgerald, and much, much more.
