Hive Festival is co-presented by the Art Gallery of New South Wales and Wollongong Art Gallery and supported by principal patron The Bayard Foundation.
Looking for an interesting and creative activity for the school holidays? Wollongong Art Gallery's popular kids workshops invite children to learn and experiment with various art styles and techniques.
Make your own plushie pal in this hands-on textile workshop designed by artist Kate Mitchell. Use your imaginative flair to create a special soft friend that represents something you want more of in your life: love, silliness, courage, calm or comfort. Drop in to the workshop any time during the listed hours. Materials and instructions are provided. Suitable for all ages and abilities. Children under 12 must be supervised by an adult at all times.
Get creative and take a moment to think about the year ahead. In this free drop-in workshop, you’ll design your own postcard. On one side, draw or write something you’d like to leave behind; like a thought, feeling, or experience you’re ready to let go of. On the other side, imagine what you’d love to welcome in for 2026. This can be a hope, a dream, or something exciting for the future!
When your postcard is complete, it will join others at the Gallery to be sent to artist Kate Mitchell. She’ll burn them in a special ceremony, releasing what’s no longer needed and sending your wishes soaring into the sky.
Take a moment to appreciate the amazing things about yourself! In this activity, you’ll write a thank-you message to a part of you, maybe something physical like your legs for running fast, or something inside, like your imagination for making ideas interesting. It could even be a character strength, like bravery for showing up when things feel scary.
Enjoy a bubble-filled experience when you visit us the Hive Festival. Watch, chase and pop bubbles as they dance through the gallery foyer.
This all-day activation by artist Kate Mitchell offers kids and families a special art blessing. Infused with four-leaf clover water, these ‘lucky’ bubbles are a welcoming gift, in celebration of Hive Festival.
Located in the heart of Wollongong CBD with easy access to great cafes, restaurants, public transport, and parking - it’s a wonderful and unique family activity. Entry is free, and there are a range of specialised tours, workshops, and programs for kids to enjoy all year round.
