BFS Children's Services, formerly known as Big Fat Smile, is a not-for-profit organisation that has been enriching the lives of children, families and communities across the Illawarra and surrounding regions for more than 45 years.

BFS stands for Birth to Five and School-aged Children’s Services, reflecting the age groups supported through high-quality early learning, community preschools and Outside of School Hours Care (OOSH).

Since 1981, BFS has been a trusted part of local communities, supporting tens of thousands of children and families throughout their early years. Deeply connected to the communities they serve, BFS combines decades of experience with a child-centred approach that helps children feel safe, supported and confident to learn, grow and thrive.

A new name, the same commitment to children: Big Fat Smile is now BFS Children’s Services

Celebrating 45 years of making a difference in the Illawarra, Big Fat Smile is now BFS Children’s Services. BFS stands for Birth to Five and School‑aged Children’s Services, a name that clearly reflects the children they support across early learning and Outside of School Hours care (OOSH).

While their name and brand are evolving, the things that matter most are not.
