Got a kid that loves LEGO or STEM?

Here's a chance to be taught by a robotics team that is now the top team in the world for STEM Education, and Outreach. This team doesn't just build robots - they change the world!

Project Bucephalus took home in 2025 the Impact Award at the FIRST Championships in the USA, the single highest award in the global program! Project Bucephalus Robotics - are only the 4th team outside the USA to ever receive this honour in 32 years - and they’re from right here in the Illawarra! Recognised for their groundbreaking work in STEM education, they’ve officially joined the FIRST Hall of Fame.

Running since 2011, this Wollongong-based group offers dynamic robotics workshops - their after-school and school holiday workshops are an excellent activity for STEM-minded (or LEGO-obsessed) kids!

From 28 Sep - 8 Oct their Robo Camps return to the UOW Shoalhaven Campus and TAFE Campus Wollongong, offering four action-packed days of hands-on learning and fun. School Holiday Programs will be held across the UOW Shoalhaven Campus & TAFE Campus Wollongong.

These workshops are a fantastic way to spark creativity, build problem-solving skills, and make new friends.

Workshop #1: Introduction to Robotics (Shoalhaven)

• Date: 29th – 30th Sept (Wed-Thurs)
• Time: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
• Cost: $160 (Inc. GST)
• Location: UOW Shoalhaven Campus

This our standard beginner course. Students are introduced to LEGO® Robotics, learning the basics of robotics and programming as they build robots capable of reacting to their environment and making simple decisions. The second day of the workshop finishes with the ever-popular “Robot Sumo” challenge and a tournament where all families are welcome. No previous experience is required.

Workshop #2: Crossbows & Catapults (Shoalhaven)

• Date: 29th – 30th Sept (Wed-Thurs)
• Time: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
• Cost: $190 (Inc. GST)
• Location: UOW Shoalhaven Campus

Take Aim! Crossbows & Catapults was a classic tabletop game from the 80s. Adapted for SPIKE Prime, it now has new life as LEGO® robots take on the role of the playing pieces. Play as part of an Alliance as you attempt to batter down the opponent’s wall and topple their tower. Designing and building the robots is only half the exercise: strategy and tactics will be needed to play the game itself! Students will be led through complex programming and then encouraged to design and build their own versions of provided robot designs.
