Step back in time and celebrate a special piece of local history as the Illawarra Light Railway Museum marks 50 years since the historic Yallah Railway Station was relocated to Albion Park Rail.
Originally built in 1890 and in service until its closure in 1974, the Yallah Station building has a rich and fascinating past — including early rail connections dating back to Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1887. After sitting idle, the station was purchased by the museum for just $20 and transported to its current home on May 8, 1976, where it was lovingly restored by volunteers and continues to operate as the museum’s main station building today.
Join the celebrations on Sunday 10 May (10am–2pm), with a special ceremony to mark the milestone, plus plenty of family-friendly experiences including:
Steam train rides (featuring a locomotive from the Kiama blue metal tramways)
Vintage motor cars on display
Volunteers dressed in 1890s attire
A fun, interactive day out for all ages
It’s a unique opportunity to experience local history brought to life and enjoy a relaxed, memorable day out with the family.
