The full Blue Mile walk is approximately 2–3km one way.
A popular section is from North Wollongong Beach to the Lighthouse, taking around 25–30 minutes at a relaxed pace – though most people take longer to enjoy it. You can very easily spend a whole day here – and why wouldn’t you? You gain a full appreciation for just how stunning and beautiful the Wollongong coastline is!

One of Wollongong’s most iconic viewpoints, with sweeping coastal and harbour views. Head up to the lighthouse carpark or grassy knoll above for some of the best vantage points in the region.

You’ll also find plenty of parking up near the lighthouse, making it an easy access point if you don’t want to walk the full Blue Mile route.
It wouldn’t be a guide to The Blue Mile, if we didn’t mention the ice cream truck regularly parked up near the North Wollongong Lighthouse carpark! It’s basically a local tradition. On a sunny afternoon, grabbing an ice cream here and sitting up on the grass or by the lookout, taking in those ocean views… it’s one of those simple Wollongong moments that never gets old.

A scenic, historic area, this part of North Wollongong has such a great feel to it – calm water, fishing boats, and some of the best waterfront dining spots all in one place. If you time it right, you might even see the trawlers coming in with the day’s catch. It’s always buzzing with activity and gives you a real glimpse into Wollongong’s local fishing scene and coastal life.

One of Wollongong’s original ocean pools, the Gentlemen’s Pool (the ocean pool picture above, far left), offers a swim that feels refreshingly close to the ocean. Tucked into the rock platform just north of the busy Continental Pool, it draws everyone from casual swimmers to ocean lovers who appreciate its unfiltered, coastal feel.

One of the best family stops along The Blue Mile, the award-winning Stuart Park is more than just a playground — it’s a full destination. Think wide open green space, picnic spots, BBQs and one of Wollongong’s most impressive all-abilities playgrounds, with equipment for all ages and abilities. Kids can climb, swing, bounce and explore, while parents can relax with a coffee nearby or wander down to the lagoon for a paddle. It’s the kind of place you plan to stop for a quick break… and end up staying much longer.
