Celebrating Australia Day in Wollongong

Australia Day is one of those occasions when Australians join together to bond over just how lucky we are to live in this incredible country. It’s a time to forget about those awkward moments at the street Christmas Party and move forth in solidarity and thongs.

This year, our communities are hurting from the recent bushfires wreaking havoc on our neighbours, making Australia Day 2020 celebrations all the more important as we honour our beautiful city by the sea.

Wollongong City Council along with their media and support partners have an incredible line up in store for the day with activities such as Sheep Shearing, Whip Cracking, Aquathon, Thong Race, Kite Flying, Battle of the Bands and a Fireworks spectacular, just to name a few.

The party starts bright and early at 8 am on January 26th running until 10 pm. Please bear in mind that road closures will be in place due to the festivities from 5 am through till approximately 10:15 pm.

There will be specific accessible viewing area allocated for those with additional access needs, their carers, and families. To take advantage of this limited area be sure to book by January 13th through the website here.

We also love that this is a Waste Wise Event which supports the Plastic Free Wollongong initiative.
